Are you ready for a new cell phone? Over time, the internal computer on phones naturally starts to deteriorate. That can cause it to lack power and simply not work as well. Whether it’s a performance issue with your current phone or a desire to employ some of the newest features, it might be time to consider an upgrade. Upgrading your phone can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be!
Upgrade Your Phone
Before upgrading your cell phone, you’ll want to decide what you’re looking for in a new phone. Do you want a better camera? More storage? Faster computing? Or maybe you’re looking to switch from a flip phone to a smartphone or vice versa. Once you decide what you’re looking for, it’s time to do a bit of research. You can review phone options to see what best suits your needs. (Plus, if we don’t have what you’re looking for, you can even bring a phone over to our service!)
If you have your phone backed up to cloud (digital) storage, the information on your current phone can easily be transferred to your new device. There are many cloud storage options that work great for backing up your smartphone. (iPhones should be backed up to iCloud!). It may also be possible to backup your phone with an app like SMS Backup & Restore.
Transfer data from a non-smartphone
If you currently have a non-smartphone, you can transfer your contacts and other data to a new phone through your phone service provider. For example, if you are upgrading to a smartphone, you can upload the information with the help of a customer service agent. They can then help you transfer it to your new smartphone.
Another way to transfer your data is to take the SIM card out of your old phone and put it into the new one. Depending on which phones you are switching from and to, this isn’t always an option. It is an easy way to transfer to a new phone if possible. Your phone provider will have instructions on how to do this with their specific phones, and will often help you with this step if you choose to upgrade.
Steps for switching
When you make the switch, you will want to make sure to log out of the apps you are currently using on your old phone, including social media accounts. Additionally, be sure to write down the passwords so that you can log back in on your new phone. You could even get a password app that keeps track of all of your passwords for you in one place. Check out our blog about passwords for more info!
After you have successfully transferred everything you need onto your new phone, you will want to reset your old one. To do this, go into the settings of your phone, click on System or General, and then click Reset. You have a couple of options on what to do with your old phone. You could donate/sell it, give it to someone you know, or trade it in to your cell phone provider.
If you are tired of your current phone and in need of a change, an upgrade may be in your future! As long as you do your research and remember to backup, making the switch is fast and easy. When in doubt, consult with your phone provider to determine the exact steps you need to take.
