Setting up your phone to play all your favorite music can seem complicated, but the process is actually simple. Use these tips for listening with your smartphone.

How do I add music to my smartphone?

There are many ways that you can use your smartphone as a music player. The process may seem complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll discover just how simple it is! There are two basic ways to play purchased music on your phone. You can either purchase and download music from or upload music you already own.

Downloading and purchasing music

You can purchase any song or album with just the tip of your finger from your smartphone! There are a variety of music applications (apps) for smartphones. A few of our favorites are:

To purchase and download a song, simply open the app of your choice and type in the album or song title into the search bar. You will then be able to buy nearly any song. It will automatically be saved on your phone for your enjoyment. To play the song, simply open your music app and search for it – it will remain in your music library forever! The best part: Your music library is easily transferred to your next smartphone.

Uploading pre-purchased songs to your music player

There are several ways you can upload pre-owned music to your smartphone from your computer. Whether you’ve purchased your music digitally or have a collection of favorite CDs, you can access it from your smartphone with a few simple steps.

Android Users

Android users will need to plug the smartphone into the USB drive on a Windows computer. You will be prompted to transfer your files. You can easily drag and drop your files right onto your phone right from your windows computer. For additional guidance, watch this very helpful YouTube video!

iOS Users

iOS users will need to put music in their iTunes account on their computer, connect their smartphone to their computer via USB, and sync the computer to the phone. Apple does require a few extra steps, so watch this YouTube video for easy-to-follow instructions.

It’s great to know the music from your favorite CDs can be played from your smartphone. Whether you’re purchasing new music or uploading your favorite tunes, your pre-owned music is available on your smartphone. Listen anytime, anywhere.

Streaming music (no purchase necessary)

If you don’t own an extensive collection of music, but love to listen, streaming music is for you. Apps like Pandora, Spotify, Amazon music, and YouTube are streaming services that allow you to listen to music with your smartphone…often for free!

Streaming services offer a large selection of songs, often at no cost to you. Paid streaming services are available, and they come with no ad listening. The only downside is that you need to either be connected to WiFi or you’ll have to use your data. If you have limited data and do not have access to wifi, this isn’t always the best option.
